Wal-Mart to Cut Prices on 16,000 Items (ANNE D'INNOCENZIO, 7/23/07, AP)

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, set the stage for price wars Monday as it announced it's cutting prices on more than 16,000 items starting this week in a bid to turn around sales for the critical back-to-school season.

I doubt they would accept the contract, but I would like to see Wal-Mart get a contract from the Feds or even a given state to provide immediate disaster relief. They already have the stores and distribution in most places. Plus, their inventory system could track what people generally need after a disaster.

It's a great idea. Only necessary items would be allowed. Katrina survivors spent their money on ridiculous luxury items including "massage" therapy.
