Plan Puts Only Sunni Terrorists in Crosshairs of the Iraqi Army (ELI LAKE, May 3, 2007, NY Sun)

With the new Baghdad security plan just getting started, American military advisers here say the list of targets issued to local commanders comprises almost exclusively Sunni terrorists, not Shiite militias.

As a result, almost all action against Moqtada al-Sadr's militia, known as the Mahdi Army, is taken by the American and coalition forces.

The prospect of an Iraqi army that only attacks Sunnis could destroy the one institution the White House believes has the best chance of forging a new unified state.


We aren't taking action either. Mookie is an ally.

The Sunnis had their chance over the past four years. They held out for another offer.

They are getting that offer right now and do not like it.

Am I the only one who suspects that the purported "anti-war" party has, to some extent, been bought with Sunni money? How likely is it that the enemy foreigh is bankrolling the enemy domestic?

We know this has happen before, as recently as the funnelling of Chicom KGB cash to Al Gore through that Bhuddist monastery.

Lou: The Saudis are Sunnis, and they have tons of money to bankroll peace movements.

If the Sunnis were smart, they should stop their terrorist tactics, conserve their fire power and man power. They should join the army and the police to keep their own neighborhood safe, from the terrorists, the Baathists, the Shiites, and may be the govt. It's stupid to fight us and prolong our stay.

Sure, the Shi'a are our natural 'allies'. But Mookie has to be killed. He's poison, both to a free Iraq and to the Shi'a themselves. Consider it a marker for the Iranians, if nothing else.

Of course, your thinking you know better than Sistani, Chalabi, Maliki and our other friends is no different than Lodge, Halberstam, etc... knowing that Diem needed killing.
