SO, AT LEAST HE HAS AN EXCUSE FOR PRODUCING CRAP:

The secret of Monet's 'blurred' painting - he couldn't see what he was doing (Daily Mail, 15th May 2007)

Scientists believe they have discovered the secret behind the work of Claude Monet, one of the founders of Impressionist painting.

The artist is known to have suffered from cataracts but new research shows how much and for how long this could have had an effect and how it may have produced his distinctive style.

And trend-sucking elites mistook it for art.

Thye bought his works.
One up for old Monet!

Amusing to see OJ fall for such a Rationalist/reductionist argument. I'm sorry you can't appreciate his work, but that doesn't mean everyone who likes Monet has somehow been brainwashed into a state of "false consciousness." Sure, a lot of "modern art" is crud, but only the most eccentric Philistine puts Monet in that category.

Do you prefer Duchamp?

Many Monets are quite striking, and their fuzziness does not detract at all from the scene.

There's no difference between the two. Subjectivism is the great sin of modernism and is anti-art.

False consciousness? There's nothing false about following trends.

You can't have aesthetics without the subjective.

Exactly backwards, though predictably so. You speak, as always, of self-worship, not beauty.
