FORGET THE MSM...:

Back to Balance?: Strong tax-revenue growth is narrowing the federal budget deficit -- again. (James C. Capretta, May 17, 2007, National Review)

Many Americans would be surprised to learn that the federal budget outlook has improved considerably over the last three years. The gap between federal revenue and spending continues to narrow, with the full-year deficit for 2007 likely to come in near 1.1 percent of GDP (or lower) -- which would make 2007 one of the best budget years of the last four decades.

The public's surprise at the improving budget picture would be understandable since a shrinking deficit runs directly counter to the media's portrayal of a hopeless U.S. fiscal situation caused by the Bush tax cuts. The remarkable, three-year revenue surge simply does not fit with that storyline.

...try explaining it to the Rightwingers who are as pork-obsessed as any crazy imam.

New budget almost $3 trillion w/a $250 billion deficit AFTER the tax cuts expire.

Well, well, I may not be the only cracker in the country, Dornan's offering an amendment about the 400K/yr and Pelosi's running for pubbie cover, W's got to get 70 pubbies to sign on or the bill doesn't come up for a vote.

So, we know you guys call those who actually waited or are waiting in line and followed the law suckers - fools, but what do you call those blacks, reds and yellows who are also against it?

Pepper, paprika and mustard crackers?

On a $14 trillion GDP that's trivial.

Wait til the troops come home next year, we'll really be running a surplus and the Dems will still run with "We all need to pull together now, we're gonna haf to raise taxes, take away your healthcare choices and keep you down on the SS investment options" - and they'll still win!

Bush lost his right wingers' supports when he passed the prescription drug plan, way before they got pork-obsessed. The right wingers termed that as the largest entitlement increase since FDR. The right wingers are mean and stupid. Bush has undercut the clamor for "universal healthcare", but the right wingers didn't care. They are delusional, they believe they could ram whatever they wanted thru everybody else's throat. When things turned out not the 100% that they wanted, they threw fits, and sat out the election. They are worse than the Dems.

I think it's the libertarians as much as the right wingers. My favorite blogs (other than this one) are becoming unreadable with the rants on pork and immigration reform and the lust for a Giuliani presidency. They aren't just mean; they're petty and undisciplined.

The recent Democratic budget bill is interesting. As expected, they're going to violate their "pay-go" rules by borrowing against the future surpluses expected in 2012 when the tax cuts expire. Well, unless they get too embarrassed and change that in the final draft. Currently the spending increases aren't specified where they'll come from other than these mystery "Reserve Funds."

KRS--

No, the Democrats will be running on taking credit for the surplus and talk about how we can raise spending now.

The Porkbusters serve a useful function - they shine the light on the grubby deals and hypocrisy in D.C. Sure, the numbers don't mean anything in terms of the overall budget, but it's vital that private citizens be able to shame the politicians like Ted Stevens, Robert Byrd, Pelosi, and the rest. All it takes is a Senator or two like Coburn and DeMint to run with the information, and the "porkers" scream and whine. As they should.

John - You are probably right about the spending. Every Democratic candidate has boasted about 'taking' revenue and doing good with it. The GOP may not be much better, but at least they can beat the Dems up on spending.

They shine a floodlight on droplets. They're hysterics.

Libertarians are whack jobs, you just notice it more on particular issues that really freak them out. They, of course, hate importing more religious conservatives.

"I favor the policy of economy, not because I wish to save money, but because I wish to save people. The men and women of this country who toil are the ones who bear the cost of government. Every dollar that we carelessly waste means that their life will be so much the more meager. Every dollar that we prudently save means that their life will be so much the more abundant. Economy is idealism in its most practical form". - Calvin Coolidge -

So, are you guys actually telling me the indiependents had no problem w/the pork spending?

It's all the RW and libertarians fault the GOP lost?

Posted by: Sandy P at May 18, 2007 11:42 PM

If Republicans turn out the GOP wins.
