THREE'LL DO:

Tulowitzki turns unassisted triple play (Owen Perkins, 4/29/07, MLB.com)

Rookie shortstop Troy Tulowitzki gave the Coors Field crowd something to cheer about Sunday, once they recovered their dropping draws.

In the top of the seventh inning of a tied game, with runners on first and second and nobody out, Chipper Jones hit a line drive at Tulowitzki, who snared the ball in flight, stepped on second to double up Kelly Johnson, and tagged Edgar Renteria just between first and second for an unassisted triple play.

Just to be safe, Tulowitzki fired the ball to Todd Helton at first, but three outs was sufficient on the play.

It was sure a sight to see today. If a rookie can get an unassisted triple-play, the Rockies may get that no-hitter at Coors Field just yet.

Someone threw one there, didn't they?

Via Dave Pinto at Baseball Musings:

"There have been five [unassisted triple plays] since the start of the 1990s, eight before that. There were six in the 1920s, including one in the World Series."

Which means, that between 1927 and 1992, there was exactly 1! utp, in 1968 by Ron Hansen, ss for the Senators.

OJ, it was Hideo Nomo in 1996, at that time a hated Dodger. The Rockies themselves have never had a no-hitter.

So did the Hideous one not only throw them in both leagues but at Mile High and Fenway? That's pretty incredible.

Wickman may be toast. That was a pitiful display of closing this last week. The Braves are still not in the Mets class.

Wickman doesn't matter. Soriano is the closer.
