THE ANTI-A380 (via Kevin Whited):
Boeing passes 500 orders for new 787, looks to speed production (AP, 4/04/07)
Boeing has sold more than 500 of its new fuel-efficient 787 passenger jets, and the intense demand continues to push a likely speedup of production rates, the company says."We've clearly captivated the world's airlines with this airplane," 787 program chief Mike Bair told hundreds of workers Tuesday at Boeing's widebody jet assembly plant.
You'll see these at American airports, not just airshows. Posted by Orrin Judd at April 4, 2007 10:03 PM
At about $140 million a pop it should make the shareholders pretty happy.
Posted by: Gideon at April 4, 2007 11:10 PMOn top of everything else it has going for it, that 787 is visually striking. Looks downright organic ... piscatorius, to be precise. Tarmac appeal is definitely a sales feature.
Posted by: ghostcat at April 4, 2007 11:16 PMIt used to look good. They changed the nose and tail from the promotional look. It looks a lot more boring now.
Posted by: RC at April 5, 2007 4:30 AMghostcat is right - it doesn't have that 'shark' look anymore.
For now, Northwest is about the only US airline with a 787 order on the books. Nobody has any money to get new planes (except Southwest, but they buy 737s). So we may just see the 787 at airshows as well, unless on a flight in Asia.
Lots of new Embraers are coming, too. Bombardier is lagging in sales.
