YET FOLKS THINK A WALL WILL STOP THEM?:

Six strikes until they're out (ELLIOT SPAGAT, 3/23/07, Chicago Sun-Times)

Guidelines issued by U.S. attorneys in Texas showed that most illegal immigrants crossing into the state had to be arrested at least six times before federal authorities would prosecute them, according to an internal Justice Department memo.

Not nice for SK's who could well suffer the fate of West Germany.

I'm pretty sure the idea is that with a wall in place as a deterrant, you might not have to arrest illegal border crossers six times.

A wall will certainly slow them down. When California built a wall, it detoured most of the cross-border traffic to Arizona.

Patrick: Not a deterrent, but a counter-measure. Jail-time is a deterrent, a wall is a counter-measure. A deterrent is aimed at will, a counter-measure at capacity. The wall is not supposed to change the illegals' minds, but their ability to get in.

Of course, a wall won't stop illegal immigration. Only biometric screening coupled with draconic enforcement aimed at employers of illegal labor would do that. That is not going to happen because the whole issue is a cynical sham.
