PSSSTT...THAT'S A COMEDY, NOT A DRAMA:

Democrats engaged in fight to fulfill pledge on Iraq war: House members lack votes to get troops out by 2008 (RENEE SCHOOF, 3/16/07, Mcclatchy-tribune)

A mini-drama in a congressional hallway this week shed some light on the difficulties that Democrats are having in keeping their promise to change the course on Iraq.

They say they have a strategy to reach that goal, but it will take time to line up enough support to pressure President Bush.

"You have all the power! End the war," activist Maureen Murphy of Newtonville, Mass., said Thursday after waiting nearly five hours for a moment to face off with Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., a Vietnam veteran and longtime military supporter who's been calling for a pullout from Iraq since 2005.

"We don't have all the power," Murtha replied gently. "It takes votes."

These people need hobbies.

Actually they need brains. But failing that, hobbies will minimize the harm they can cause.

Have all the power? Isn't one of the slams against Bush that he believes in the unitary executive?

It'll take them to 2008 or beyond.

Sandy, such beliefs are faith-based, not reality-based. They will last. Not that faith-based is bad - the question is what are you bowing to when you take on the faith?

Worship of pacifism gives evil much strength.

Why wasn't this woman waiting in Kerry's office?

Murtha will never have the votes. The Dems will string their slow bleed votes along for the next 18 months, but they won't actually vote on de-funding the war. They remember 1972, and they know that a similar Presidential landslide in 2008 will flip Congress decisively to the GOP.

The political battles will get very interesting when Petraeus starts reporting back to D.C. - and if the condition of the 'policing' improves, the Left will shriek even louder, forcing Congress to spin even more. And what will the Dems do if Lieberman (or Hillary) says that we are winning?

Perhaps Hagel is waiting until after the first Petraeus report to announce his decision to run or not. What a profile in nothingness he is.

I'd say they need some new hobbies.
