IS YAHWEH AN ANTI-ZIONIST THESE DAYS TOO?:
Taming Leviathan: These are both the best of times and the worst of times for the American-Jewish lobby (Lexington, Mar 15th 2007, The Economist)
THIS week saw yet another reminder of the awesome power of "the lobby". The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) brought more than 6,000 activists to Washington for its annual policy conference. And they proceeded to live up to their critics' darkest fears. They heard from the four most powerful people on Capitol Hill--Nancy Pelosi and John Boehner from the House, Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell from the Senate--as well as the vice-president (who called his talk "The United States and Israel: United We Stand") and sundry other power-brokers. Several first-division presidential candidates held receptions.
The display of muscle was almost equalled by the display of unnerving efficiency.
Leviathan seems a particularly inappropriate aspersion. Posted by Orrin Judd at March 15, 2007 2:52 PM
Here we go again.
I guess that Jews aren't allowed to have an effective lobby in a country where every other group uses this kind of tactic to promote its cause. Double standard is the second of Natan Sharansky's 3 D's of anti-Semitism. The first is Demonization and the third is Deligitimazation (of the State of Israel).
What would you expect from the Economist, an endorsement of AIPAC? Isn't it headquartered in "Londinistan."? I was at the policy conference & was duly impressed with its scope and awesome efficiency.
Because there was no such organization as AIPAC prior to WWII 6 million Jews perished at the hands of the Nazis. No one did much to prevent or stop it until it was too late.
The whole theme of the conference was predicated on the fact that as goes Israel's fate so goes the fate of the USA. Our enemies are the same and their goals of our mutual destruction are the same. Whether one agrees with that premise or not makes little difference to our current realities.
These European anti-Semites need to get a better hobby than worrying about the US and Israel.
In the US, all can petition the government.
In Europe, they let the government roll them.
