THEY AREN'T CALLED KNOW-NOTHINGS FOR NOTHING:
Funding for 700-mile border fence falls short (TODD J. GILLMAN, 2/06/07, The Dallas Morning News)
President Bush's budget includes enough money to build only half the U.S.-Mexico border fence Congress demanded last fall, leaving supporters of a 700-mile barrier seething Monday and immigration advocates shrugging that it was just an election-year ploy.

Fear not yahoos. I have the solution. Instead of building 350 miles of a 12 ft high fence, build the whole 700 miles with a 6 ft high fence. Those swarthy brown Catholics south of the border that y'all want to keep out are on the short side after all. 6 ft might just do the job.
You can thank me later.
Posted by: Jim in Chicago at February 6, 2007 10:42 AMYou had that one. It was all an effing sham from the beginning.
No one ever had any intention of stopping the economic sin of peon exploitation. The solution was obvious all along, namely biometric identification plus draconic enforcement against empolyers. No one ever gave it a thought, just phoney, cynical posturing.

And quickly.
Posted by: Sandy P at February 6, 2007 12:48 PMSandy, that's because they really want to keep people out. We don't want to keep them out, we only want to play Let's Pretend.
Posted by: erp at February 6, 2007 12:57 PMThe amnesty ends the sin, not keeping them out.
Posted by: oj at February 6, 2007 3:36 PMWe'd build a fence if our neighbors were our enemies.

Well if my neighbor drifted into my house looking for money (honestly earned of course, but with the proviso that I only violate the law a little bit) and then decided to start eating my doritos and drinking my beer, during the Super Bowl? All the while bad-mouthing Tom Brady in spanish and attempting to switch the channel to soccer. I would politely ask him to go back to his yard and buy his own HD-tv and build a fence to emphazise the point.

h-man, but a fence wouldn't keep him out, only make it a little harder to get in. Although, I agree that eating your doritos is a serious breach of etiquette.
Posted by: erp at February 6, 2007 6:51 PMRealistically, it's far more likely that you lazy gringos will show up at his door to watch his 52" and eat food that doesn't taste like wood pulp.
Posted by: oj at February 6, 2007 8:29 PMNo self respecting Mexican would be caught dead eating Doritos. There are much better real tortilla chips out there.

Jim, right you are. To resurrect an old quote from Senator George Murphy, " God built em close to the ground....to pick crops."
