THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY:

Exasperated House bypasses Senate on Iraq (Alex Johnson, 2/06/07, MSNBC)

House leaders got fed up with waiting around for the Senate to act and decided Tuesday to go ahead with their own vote on a resolution opposing President Bush's plan to add 21,500 U.S. troops in Iraq. [...]

NBC's Mike Viqueira reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., had agreed to a personal request from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to let the Senate go first in recognition of the role that anti-war sentiment played in Democrats' winning control of the Senate in November.

But with senators unable to agree even on whether to debate the issue, much less vote on a resolution, Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., seized the initiative Tuesday and scheduled a House vote for next week.

Is the 100 hours of Democratic world dominance officially over yet?

The White House must be laughing. But I'll bet Boehner is going to be sweating, because he has to find a way for the GOP to show some unity on voting against defeatism. Shays and a few other Republicans will vote for anything that shows their 'independence', but how will the Blue Dogs vote?

Since this is really nothing more than an over-hyped photo op, all non-RHINO GOP'ers should simply not show up to vote at all, making the case that such a resolution is a horrible disgrace to the chamber itself and doesn't even deserve the ridiculous formality of a vote. If the Dems want the limelight while shooting themselves in the foot, why steal any of it?
