NEVER PASS UP FREE MONEY:

Don't forget to ask for $30 phone tax refund X (AP, February 4, 2007)

More than a third of early tax return filers are not requesting the one-time telephone tax refund entitling them to at least $30, the Internal Revenue Service said Wednesday. [...]

Those claiming a standard refund amount, which needs no documentation, will receive $30 to $60, based on the number of exemptions they claim. There's an extra line on tax returns to claim the refund.

Sweet muscular IRS. Where is this extra line located?

The resident CPA directs you to Line 71 on the 1040 form.

Thanks, erp. I looked twice and didn't see it.

I did a spot check, and unless I didn't multiply right, it'll be closer to $80 for me if I go through the effort to fill out the extra form. I knew that file drawer full of old bills would be worth something someday...

I did my taxes this morning and got $60. Reading BrothersJudd.com PAYS OFF!!

It pays me back with interest for that copy of Redefining Sovereignty. Which up to now had been good mostly for some sweet naps.

See what the beast does to one's mind: IT'S NOT THEIR MONEY, and IT'S NOT FREE. They shouldn't have taken it in the first place.

An insult, actually--sort of like a robber leaving you a buck for carfare.

Well, enjoy it, all. Just make sure you don't check that compaign contribution box.

If you use 1040EZ, it is on line 9.

Lou, it's even sillier when the taxpayer thinks the accountant is responsible for the refund.
