WHAT SHALL WE DO WITH THE SURPLUS?:

Deficit Falls to Lowest Level in 4 Years (MARTIN CRUTSINGER, January 12, 2007, The Associated Press)

The federal deficit has improved significantly in the first three months of the new budget year, helped by a continued surge in tax revenues.

In its monthly budget report, the Treasury Department said Friday that the deficit from October through December totaled $80.4 billion, the smallest imbalance for the first three months of a budget year since 2002. The budget year ends Sept. 30.

Tax collections are running 8.2 percent higher than a year ago while government spending is up by just 0.7 percent from a year ago.

Yet the GOP ran as if government spending -- which they controlled -- was a problem?

Maybe spend it on Iraq? Especially given Bush's new job creation program, ahem, for Iraq. Sociologist Amitai Etzioni writes about the plans skeptically in the National Interest, "Bush's Dollars for Peace in Iraq," and Robert E. Looney comments further, "The billions of dollars the president rolled off Wednesday may sound sizeable and impressive, but it will be consumed by the conflagration of conflict in Iraq." Wars cost money, loads of it.

It's chump change. The economy is something like $14 trillion. Assume the most whacko cost projections -- that $2 trillion that the Leftist economists proposed -- and it's too cheap a war to even deserve the name.

WHAT SHALL WE DO WITH THE SURPLUS?

The same thing you do with a drunken sailor, of course.

Are criticizing the GOP for spending too much, or for running the wrong campaign?
And would you agree that there are investments of tax dollars more worthwhile than war?
And does the disconnect between what the GOP (or Dems) says they do, and what the actually do, bother you at all?

Posted by: Macduff at January 13, 2007 4:18 AM

No, there is no use of tax dollars more worthwhile than Reforming the Middle East.

Macduff, the GOP ran the wrong campaign. Second, the Goverment cannot invest, it can only control. Goverment control of anything has a bad track record. Third, what disconnect are we talking about? The disconnect between the Dems spoken love of gays and their gay bashing? The disconnect between their spoken love of the family and their pro-choice agenda? The disconnect between their love of equality and their racist laws and programs? Yes, the Democrats bother me a lot. The Republicans, not at all. They have standards, and when people fall short of them, they resign. That makes me proud. I wonder how the Democrats can stand having Murtha and Kennedy as party leaders. The goverment will always spend money, but the Republicans spend money on physical items, like roads or carriers. These things make our lives better and safer, as opposed to the Democrat programs like S.S., with reduce us to the level of slaves. I remember the news stories of people on Social Security who had been reduced to eating dog food. Where's the security the Democrats promised? How do the Democrats live with the shame, seeing how badly their flagship program has failed? I didn't see any sign that they had any shame. They just went out and campaigned on the theme "Vote for Us, or the Republicans will Starve You!". Taking a proud, independent people and reducing them to beggers and less then slaves is a crime.
Is that what you meant Macduff?

Yes, I hate the Democrats too, but just for one second, in the spirit of OJ's initial point, I was focusing on the Republicans.

So I hope everyone, for future reference, is listening to me: You really don't need to point out that the Democrats are scumbags. I have never defended the bastards, nor do I ever plan to.

My question is: If you notice all these corrupt things the Dem's do, then why are you ignoring the fact the the Republicans do the same things?
Republicans waste money just as much as Dems do. Only I would rather see my money wasted on American educational systems than on murdering Muslims.
WWJD about reforming the Middle East? I doubt he would be impressed at what we've done in Iraq.

Oh, brother.

Did you read The Allende Myth yet?

It is being wasted on the American educational system, where have you been?

Republicans don't do them--their corruption occurs when they vote for an issue based on populism. They're the business party, so they should be in bed with business.
