Posted by: erp at January 12, 2007 5:41 PMNetflix has a couple. Haven't seen them yet, but the consensus on a recent thread here seems to have been that the dialogue was difficult to follow because of the Scottish dialect.
Posted by: jdkelly at January 13, 2007 10:08 AMIt is difficult and the original Rebus -- John Hannah -- is too vulnerable looking for the role, though a terrific actor, while the successor -- Ken Stott -- is too doughy. James Cosmo as Cafferty is bloody brilliant though.

Maybe it's my Scottish ancestry and the relatives I still have over there, but I find it absurd when Scots dialogue has to be subtitled in the movies, television etc. It's easily understandable to me -- at least in its Glaswegian and Edinburgh versions. Now deep in the countryside is another matter -- ditto your Irish countryman's accent -- but that's not what spoken on telly or film.
