The drive by the Christian right to take control of military chaplaincies, which now sees radical Christians holding roughly 50 percent of chaplaincy appointments in the armed services and service academies, is part of a much larger effort to politicize the military and law enforcement. This effort signals the final and perhaps most deadly stage in the long campaign by the radical Christian right to dismantle America’s open society and build a theocratic state. A successful politicization of the military would signal the end of our democracy.During the past two years I traveled across the country to research and write the book "American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America."

Give us a break. Everybody knows that those who go into police and the mlitary are authoritarian personalities, just as religious conservatives are the ones having the babies.
If the so-called, self-proclaimed "progressives" can't handle those realities, let them put aside their peace-creep and sexual deviate propensities, then the children they have will be lined up to join the military.

Posted by: andrew at January 4, 2007 12:25 PMThe interesting thing about that formulation is that it's exactly backwards: conservatives accept the existence of Authority and subject themselves to it. It is liberals who insist that they are each a legitimate authority, in the absence of anyone Higher, and ought, therefore, be considered authoritarian personalities.
Of course, America is explicitly based on being subject to the Authority, which is why the Left is literally unAmerican.
