HOW COULD A DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTION DO ANYTHING BUT EMPOWER THE SHI'A?:

Has Lebanon's Cedar revolt come undone?: Hizbullah now occupies the Beirut squares where the 'Cedar Revolution' helped end Syrian dominance in 2005. (Nicholas Blanford, 1/03/07, The Christian Science Monitor)

While the political landscape has shifted and alliances have changed from two years ago, it's clear that Hizbullah has taken a page from the Cedar Revolution's playbook.

It has called thousands of antigovernment protesters to the streets for open-ended protests calling for more government seats for the opposition, or, failing that, fresh elections and an end to the rule of the March 14 coalition, which was swept into power after Syrian troops left the country.


Folks who don't want to see the emergence of a Shi'a crescent need to openly disavow self-government.

The entire spiritual jailhouse is incapable of democratic self-government. Its intitution are antithecal to democracy.

This is because its conponents are in irrepressible conflict with one another. Every clash among them remains at the level of a zero-sum game.

The connection between jailhouse institutions and irrepressible factional war lies in their identity of church and state. Having been founded by a factional boss, and having split early along mob faction lines, they are now doomed to remain in the RICO mode.

There is absolutely nothing in the past or present to refute this interpretation. The best we hear is that the Shia mob family, having been long on the losing end of it, has learned to lose and is now going to be meek and humble. Just watch.

I thought that Lebanon wasn't a majority-shia state?

If they weren't the others wouldn't fight so hard to prevent real democracy.

I don't recall liberating the "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" Shiites as being the reason for Bush's Iraq war. Can you provide a citation?
