LINCOLN LAUGHS:

Jose, victim of a sinister new America (Andrew Sullivan, 12/11/06, Sunday Times of London)

The basic principle of Anglo-American liberty for several hundred years has been habeas corpus — the notion that the government cannot detain a citizen without charging him with crimes that can be brought before a court and a jury of his peers. It is the keystone of any notion of a free society. For the first time in the history of the United States, it has been indefinitely suspended, and Padilla is the proof.

Well, now we know what Jose converted to in prison this time....

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Ex parte Quirin, the Nazi submarine commando case.

Note that one of the captured war criminals, Haupt, may have been an American citizen. The Court never reached this issue because it didn't make a difference.

it has been indefinitely suspended

I wasn't aware that Abe put an expiration date on his decrees. How Tolerant of him. I would've thought they were "for the duration."

Once again Homosexualist Andrew Sullivan demonstrates that he thinks we all inhabit his little self-indulgent fantasy world, one whose history changes at his slightest whim or to accomodate his ignorance.

Lou Gots:

I remember reading that one of the Detroit papers said about that case that the perpetrators ought to lined up against a wall and shot.

Andrew has been making a lot of mistakes lately.

At NRO, David Frum has a neat takedown regarding Andrew's missteps on a bill passed by Parliament in 1867 regarding the franchise. He misstated the scope of the bill, the facts involved, and claimed the wrong guy (Disraeli) was PM at the time.

I haven't read anything by Sullivan in almost two years. He reminds me more and more of David Brock with his sudden urge to please a different audience.
