Carter Nixes Debate With Outspoken Prof (AP, 12/15/06)

Former President Carter turned down a request to debate Alan Dershowitz about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying the outspoken Harvard law professor "knows nothing about the situation."

Carter, author of a new book advocating "peace not apartheid" in the region, said he will not visit Brandeis University to discuss the book because the university requested he debate Dershowitz.

"I don't want to have a conversation even indirectly with Dershowitz," Carter said in Friday's Boston Globe. "There is no need ... to debate somebody who, in my opinion, knows nothing about the situation in Palestine."

Carter, like all bullies, is running away. But he is going to find, that like Teddy, there are some questions that won't stop. Chappaquiddick only 'went away' after Teddy stopped running for President. Will any reporter have the nerve to ask Carter if a Nobel Laurete should be a plaigirist?

Dershowitz would tear him to pieces, and Jimmy knows it.

This in not an issue which can be debated. Neither side has a cause greater that the last arguement of realms.

Dershowitz Is certainly at least as qualified as Carter to speak on the subject, but his books stumble over trying to distinguish his client from any other people of the wagon train.

Keep in mind that the so-called, self-proclaimed "progressive" or "anti-imperialist" side is forced into attacking Israel because Israel has been positioned as America'a hostage and pretext to empire.
