FINALLY FIGURING OUT WHOSE SIDE WE'RE ON:

U.S. Considers Ending Outreach to Insurgents (Robin Wright, December 1, 2006, Washington Post)

The Bush administration is deliberating whether to abandon U.S. reconciliation efforts with Sunni insurgents and instead give priority to Shiites and Kurds, who won elections and now dominate the government, according to U.S. officials.

Let's see, if we had inadvertently shattered Iraq into shards, and this were contrary to our intentions, that would have been a blunder, a failure of planning and intelligence.

If we had torn that former islamic entity to pieces by carefully laid plans, that would have been a noteworthy feat of policy..

But wait: if on the other hand, we planned and executed the demolition of the soon to be former Iraq, as utterly as Carthage, leaving the appearance that we had not intended to do so all along, then that would have been an historic prodigy of statecraft.

Who can say? When we ask ourselves which alternative reality should win our assent, just say these words: "Harriet Miers."
