We must alter Soc Sec, Rangel says (Celeste Katz, 11/29/06, NY Daily News)
Raising retirement age or reducing benefits can't be ruled out if the Social Security system is to be saved from going bust, Rep. Charles Rangel said yesterday."All of these things are on the table to find some way to make certain that Social Security is solvent," said Rangel, who is poised to take control of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.
So their offer to the American people is to pay more and get less from a statist program rather than get more and own it yourself in a privatized one? Of course, Charlie isn't going to tamper with HIS retirement plan.
And he's just continuing the Andrew Young tradition of ignoring anyone whose skin is darker than his. Though, I'm sure Rangel's correction tomorrow will be to announce that only the "rich" will have reduced benefits (and they may have to work longer to get them). Means-testing is the new compassion.
