ONLY BUREAUCRATS COULD THINK THAT SECRET:
Pentagon Review Sees Three Options in Iraq: More Training of Iraqi Troops a Likely Focus (Thomas E. Ricks, November 20, 2006, Washington Post)
The Pentagon's closely guarded review of how to improve the situation in Iraq has outlined three basic options: Send in more troops, shrink the force but stay longer, or pull out, according to senior defense officials.Insiders have dubbed the options "Go Big," "Go Long" and "Go Home." The group conducting the review is likely to recommend a combination of a small, short-term increase in U.S. troops and a long-term commitment to stepped-up training and advising of Iraqi forces, the officials said.
None of the options has anything to do with Iraq. Posted by Orrin Judd at November 19, 2006 11:42 PM
Orrin, good to see your site up again.
I would suggest maintaining present US troop level. Hunker down and hold for the time being with previously trained Iraqis. Airlift the untrained, or partially trained, Iraqi forces out starting with highest ranking to remote bases including the US. Train them there and keep the flow going. It's not like they need on the job training. They know what combat is. They need uninterupted, concentration training and I think it would pay dividends by early Summer 07.
