Democrats are set to gain 19 House seats, two Senate seats, and five governorships in tomorrow's elections. It is a sign of Republicans' sorry state that, at this point, this is actually a very favorable outlook for them.

Rove told Hugh Hewitt this afternoon that the Reps will hold both the Senate and the House ... with the latter majority cobbled together in a "not pretty" fashion.

Not sure of their track record, but if this is true its damn near the best case scenario. Pelosi as ringleader in a 3-vote margin paleoliberal circus while the Senate keeps approving judges. Please be true!

Don't forget there's at least one dem (in Miss.) who didn't vote for Pelosi for Speaker the last time.

Novak was one of the few to call the 1994 GOP takeover of Congress, so his track record here is probably a little above average for the pundit class.

The best warning for swing district Democrats on what not to do, if their party does pick up the House, would be to look at the 1992 election of former TV newswoman Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky to Congress in a suburban Philadelphia district. She campaigned as a moderate, but provided the deciding vote for the 1993 Clinton tax increase in the House and was ousted in the 1994 GOP landslide.

Of course, there you had Democrats also in control of the Senate and White House, so there was no one left to shove off blame onto, but the current leadership's lack of caution on following their most self-destructive whims will probably offset that handicap, as well as giving any 2008 GOP presidential candidate a pinata of a target to swing at during the general election campaign.
