ALL OVER BUT THE INAUGURATION SPEECH:

McCain Lands State Sen. Mike Fair (Hotline, October 17, 2006)

In the world of SC politics, the smaller fish often taste the best. Sen. John McCain's Straight Talk America PAC has signed up State Sen. Mike Fair, who represents some of the most conservative precincts in Greenville. Fair was a strong supporter of Pres. Bush in 2000. He is a strong, strong conservative -- he ran to Sen. Jim DeMint's right in the '98 Senate primary (and lost). He's leading the charge to give science teachers in the state more latitude to teach "intelligent design" as an alternative to Darwinian evolution.

When McCain buddy DeWine loses in Ohio, won't that show that the McCain message isn't a sure-fire vote winner?

Hillary won't even bother campaigning in OH against McCain. It'd be a waste of time and money.

If Dewine loses, still a big if, it will be 99% due to the Tom Noe and other scandals that have killed the GOP here. (Our governor has about a 19% approval rating, strongly up from last year's 15%) The Dems will take the Governor's mansion and at least two other statewide offices (or more) in a state that has been 100% GOP controlled for 16 years. It really isn't that GOP naturally, the Dems were just unnaturally weak, so a rebound was going to come sooner or later.

OH was supposed to be going for Kerry by at least a few points until the actual votes were counted. The OH GOP has definitely dragged down DeWine. Although I think I just read somewhere DeWine has over $4MM left while Brown is broke which might help in the stretch run.

As for Blackwell he seems like a good candidate but won't get the win.
