RETREATING FASTER THAN FRENCHMEN:

NBC undecided about Madonna mock crucifixion (Reuters, 9/20/06)

The NBC television network is still making up its mind about whether it will allow pop star Madonna to stage a mock crucifixion on its airwaves as part of her upcoming prime-time concert special.

How about instead having her mock Mohammed or the manner in which he died?

The exact point: they could show that with impunity.

"One day, upon returning from a visit to a cemetery, Muhammad became very ill. He suffered for several days with head pain and weakness. Muhammad finally succumbed to his malady around noon on Monday, June 8, 632, in the city of Madina, at the age of sixty-three"

Rather mundane death. Not exactly up to Las Vegas standards.

Plus, I doubt Madonna has ever said "Not tonight, I have a headache."

John - true but its getting to the point where the men/other are saying that to Madonna.

To show you how old I am: I can remember when some TV stations refused to carry a program in which Petula Clark touched Harry Belafonte's arm during a duet.

Mr. Judd;

You mean like the way the movie version of The Sum Of All Fears had Islamic terrorists, just like the book?

there's hardly a shortage of Islamo-crazies in film.

I thought Muhammed rode up to heaven on a white horse from Jerusalem when he died?

Posted by: Jayson at September 20, 2006 2:30 PM

He only had a one-night pass, and was forced to return when it expired.

Or how about all those publishers of those Danish cartoons, or how the magazines that did publish them got top billing in Border's "Banned Books" display? Interesting definition of "impunity" that gets used around here, isn't it?

A very effective theatrical production could be the stoning to death of a Moslem woman who dishonored her family by being raped by her father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, in-law and/or any stranger passing in the night.

Naturally as she was stoned, parts of her burqa/shroud would come apart revealing the voluptuosity that is Madonna while her males dancers could play the rapists all Arabian Nights looking in their Sheik-of-Araby duds.

Rudolph Valentino Redux. It'd be a sensation, I tells ya!

erp:

That's too much. There's even a title they could use - "Midnight at the Oasis".
