DON'T BE A SHEBAA CRY BABY:
Behind the dispute over Shebaa Farms: The resolution that quieted the fight between Hizbullah and Israel requires the UN to address who owns this land. (Joshua Mitnick, 8/22/06, The Christian Science Monitor)
The UN Security Council is scheduled to revisit the thorny question of whom Shebaa Farms belongs to. A diplomatic solution, analysts say, could eventually bolster stability along the Israel-Lebanese border by weakening Hizbullah's justification for holding onto its weapons."It would lead to the marginalization" of Hizbullah's militia, says Gidi Grinstein, the president of the Reut Institute, a Tel Aviv think tank. "The goal of eliminating Hizbullah from Lebanon is not achievable, therefore we should make Hizbullah's life more difficult through the politics of legitimacy."
Palestine has demonstrated how deathly it is for the radicalism of these groups to get what they claim to want. Keep shifting responsibility to them and making them ever more answerable to their people. Posted by Orrin Judd at August 21, 2006 11:45 PM
"answerable to their people", what people? Those are terrorist enablers. The reason that Hamas have a bad time is because they are losing to Israel. They are unable to kill as many Israelis as the Palestinians wanted. Once the terrorists are perceived to be winning, as the Hizbos are at present, their "people" want more, more Israeli blood. More land to them will not take away their excuses, especially when they claim all of Israel theirs.
Posted by: ic at August 22, 2006 12:55 AMNo, Hamas is having a tough time because they won and don't know how to respond. Extremists depend on losing to keep the nutjobs riled up.
Hezbollah faces the same problem, if we're smart about it.
Posted by: oj at August 22, 2006 1:10 AMIt's important that the Shaba Farms issue be resolved between the two existing sovereign states. And that ceding the area to Lebanon be seen as a gesture of good will on the part of Israel.

Posted by: vm at August 22, 2006 3:56 AMIsrael has been voluntarily giving up land as a goodwill gesture for quite a number of years now. How's that working out?
What was Einstein's definition of insanity again?
Posted by: erp at August 22, 2006 7:49 AMQuite well. They have excelent relations, though often clandestine, with Egypt and Jordan, while withdrawing from Palestine has destroyed the PLO and neutered Hamas. They even have an effective peace with Hezbollah.

Posted by: oj at August 22, 2006 9:21 AMMusa Sadr's Harakat Amal, although not philosemitic, was not as virulent as
Hezbollah's Fadlallah creed.
Excellent relations, but a bit on the clandestine side!
Isn't that the plot of a lot B movies where the BMOC high school hero lurks around in the dark with a girl from the other side of the tracks but doesn't acknowledge her in public. Then he goes off to college and sees less and less of her until he graduates and brings a beautiful coed home as his wife. AGFTOSOTT, now in an interesting condition, jumps off the bridge to her death.
Question: Is Israel the BMOC or the doxy.
