FRANKEN, MY DEAR, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN:

WDOD Radio Switches From Air America To Music Format (Judy Frank, August 23, 2006, The Chattanoogan)

Chattanooga’s oldest radio station, WDOD, has ended its 11-month experiment with progressive talk radio.

At 10 a.m. this past Monday, the station switched to a format featuring musical oldies and standards from the late 1950s and the 1960s and 1970s, according to Danny Howard, director of programming and operations for WDEF and WDOD.

Although, there's no real difference between liberal talk and 70s rock.

Go around the country and it's sad to see what happened to some formerly prominent AM radio stations that in the late 1980s or early 1990s for whatever reason, refused to jump on the conservative talk radio bandwagon and now find themselves floundering for an identity (if they're lucky, they had time to at least hook up with ESPN or Fox Sports if they're in a city too small to sustain an all-news format; others just reel from one format to the next, on their way down to paid infomercials or a transition to a foreign language format).

I lived in Chattanooga from 1982-1990. It was then (and almost certainly is now) an extremely conservative town. To illustrate: it had the infamy of pulling the Parade Sunday supplement magazine from the local paper one weekend due to the mildly sexual nature of its cover story - the only town in the USA to do so.

At any rate, it is astounding the progressive talk radio lasted 11 months or was even attempted there.
