COMING, FALL 2008, MAVERICK AND THE LADY:

HILL TOPPER: LEADS ALL DEMS IN NEW PREZ POLL (CATHY BURKE, August 20, 2006, NY Post)

According to the poll - which will hit newsstands tomorrow - Clinton would be the only Dem to make it a real race against GOP favorite Sen. John McCain.

The poll shows a statistical dead heat, with McCain getting 49 percent of the vote to Clinton's 47 percent. The 2-point gap is within the poll's margin of error.

By comparison, McCain would wallop John Kerry by 10 points, and slap former veep Al Gore by 9.

Americans appear to have at long last warmed to Bubba's long-suffering wife. She has the highest favorable rating of big-dog Dems: 53 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of her. That tops Gore at 49 percent, and former Sens. John Edwards and Kerry at 46.

Poll was conducted by Time magazine which has a crappy reputation regarding polls. Hillary being well loved by the Dems flies in the face of every other poll and common sense. Rational Dems (if there are any) realize that Hillary would galvanize the GOP base like no other Dem candidate almost certainly leading to the GOP holding the White House.

Is there any poll where she isn't running ahead?

Note that Hizzona blows away Cap'n Queeg in that poll. Which suggests that AWW is right about the poll being skewed aport.

No, the Mayor is a blank to people except for 9-11. He should lead until people know his views. He's a canvas that will be painted by Rove and Mark McKinnon.

One of the reasons that McCain is so formidable is that he's run a national campaign. Giuliani hasn't even won one statewide.

I agree with all of that, but still think Hizzona will surprise in the primaries.
