THIRD WORLD NATIONS FLYING THIRD WORLD PLANES:
Russian plane crashes; 150 feared dead (AP, Jul. 9, 2006)
An airplane with about 200 passengers crashed early Sunday in the Siberian city of Irkutsk and with most on board were feared dead, officials said.Posted by Orrin Judd at July 8, 2006 11:07 PMThe Sibir Airbus A-390 crashed on landing, veering off the runway at 2:50 a.m., local time, and bursting into flames, Emergency Situations Ministry spokeswoman Irina Andrianova said.
1. No such think as an "Airbus A-390."
2. Russians are non-discriminatory airplane crashers.
3. Cause will prove to be poor maintenance.
Which is why folks won't fly third world.

Which is why folks won't fly third world.You mean that these were the only passengers on all third world airlines? What bad luck. And no, since there are no passengers left, all third world airlines will shut down?
curt;
Another report was that it was an A310.
I think it's a good thing Mr. Judd didn't have a weblog when that 747 crashed in Japan for the worst aviation disaster in history. Who'd fly an American plane after that?
Posted by: Annoying Old Guy at July 9, 2006 12:23 PMHave flown Air India out of JFK for several decades. Then there's Thai, Malaysia, LAN, AeroMexico, several in China, etc etc -- all doing a fine business with first world travellers.
Russia is a special category -- still suffering from a Communist hangover.
Posted by: curt at July 9, 2006 12:26 PMThat's the difference between and accident and Russians flying French planes.
Posted by: oj at July 9, 2006 12:28 PMAs a matter of fact, there were a number of years there where several U.S. carriers were broke, skimping on maintenance, laying off machinists left and right, and doing battle with the ones that were left, when I activity sought out foreign carriers.
Posted by: curt at July 9, 2006 12:45 PMAmericans didn't. We don't look past the label.
Posted by: oj at July 9, 2006 12:57 PMPerhaps the pilot let his son fly the plane, as happened in another Aeroflot crash several years ago.
