Mexico knows tidy elections. For 70 years, the outcomes were never in doubt days before the polls opened. For all of its high-stakes intensity, this week's paper-thin presidential contest is a triumph of democracy.

I'd love to see someone ask Tom Tancredo if Bush had followed his sage advance, would that have been enough to anger 150,000 or so Mexicans who voted for Calderon to the point they would have switched to Lopez Obrador as a way to send the U.S. a message.
