The French government was humiliated yesterday as its attempts to make people give up a bank holiday and work for nothing in a "day of solidarity" for the elderly and handicapped backfired.

Okay so we know they don't work - whether they are paid or not (and if they can find a job), but I still don't get those stats that show up periodically putting the French workers at a higher production efficiency than the American ones. Anyboby?

American employment has a "long tail" that is replaced in France by the unemployed. The key fact is that every time you make a less than average productivity worked unemployed, average productivity goes up.

What AOG said - and after having pushed all those people into unemployment the lefties complain that they have to interact with machines instead of people (they take it as proof that capitalism is cold and impersonal).
