PROBABLY NOT BECAUSE OF HADITHA

Army Meets Recruiting Goal Again (AP, 6/9/06)

The Army said Friday it surpassed its recruiting goal for May, marking the 12th consecutive month of meeting or exceeding its target....

The regular Army signed up 5,806 new recruits last month, compared with its target of 5,400, and the Army National Guard and Army Reserve also exceeded their May goals, according to statistics released by the Pentagon....

The Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps also met their May recruiting goals, the Pentagon said.

I just commented further down on the 'Israeli shell' that was probably Palestinian, and it seems that 'Haditha' was a hoax. American thinker has the goods.

I certainly hope so, but I don't think that we're there yet. What is being proven -- thanks mostly to the blog Sweetness and Light -- is that Time Magazine has been incredibly disingenuous (almost certainly intentionally) on their sourcing of information about Haditha. The information is being spread by the enemy, and Time is their willing accomplice.

That doesn't mean, though, that nothing happened at Haditha.

My concern is that whatever happened is going to fall into that gray area where we should defer to the Marines on the ground, making split second decisions while in amongst the enemy. In that situation, the Pentagon has been known to sell out the troops to make nice with the second-guessers (see, e.g., Lt. Colonel Alan West)

David, you're right about selling out the troops on the ground. I'm still steaming about how the Abu Gharib hi-jinks were handled, It diminished my formerly unqualified admiration for Rumsfeld and Bush. I realize that governing shouldn't be seen close up no less than sausage making, but it's disgusting and disgraceful nevertheless,
