FROM THE POINTLESS TO THE PREDICTABLE:

Hamas offers to restore ceasefire (BBC, 6/16/06)

The Hamas-led Palestinian government is willing to urge militants to renew a ceasefire if Israel halts its attacks on Gaza, a spokesman has said.

Ghazi Hamad said the government would urge militant groups to stop firing rockets from Gaza into Israel.

One of these times, Israel won't rise to the bait and then it's over for Palestine. This seems like as good a time as ever.

Being ". . .willing to urge militants to renew a ceasefire. . ." does not satisfy the obligations of neutrality. If the "Palestine Authority" cannot stop its territory from being used to attack another country the aggrieved power may defend itself. Remember Pershing's expedition? Same idea.

That would be true were Palestine a sovereign state, which is why Israel's slow going has only hurt itself.

"urge" – who could ask for more than that?

Of course, we know the real reason:

Hamas stopped firing Qassam rockets at Israel yesterday, after Israel warned that it would attack Hamas leaders.
Like all ruling classes, the Hamas leadership cares only about itself, the rest of the Palestinians are just expendable munitions.

No one thinks the Israelis were any more serious than Hamas was--it's just theater for the credulous.

Hamas needs a ceasefire with Israel, because they can't afford to waste the bullets. They need they to shoot at Fateh.

Let's see them whack a guy we didn't green light, then I'll take them seriously.

It's good to know that you're plugged in enough to know who the USA is green lighting for elimination and who it isn't. All that whining that came out of the Bush White House about this kind of hit was just more fodder for the credulous?

We whined when he was appointed--may as well have drawn the bull's-eye.
