WHAT DO DEMOCRATS CARE ABOUT BLACKS?:

Mfume decries lack of party support (S.A. Miller and Jon Ward, May 16, 2006, THE WASHINGTON TIMES)

Maryland U.S. Senate candidate Kweisi Mfume said yesterday that Democrats risk losing the senatorial election because "old-line party bosses" are undermining his campaign and alienating black voters.

Mr. Mfume also would not say whether he would endorse Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin, the front-runner for the Democratic Senate nomination, if he should lose to the lawmaker in the September primary.

Mr. Mfume's future is in the GOP anyway.

Steele can beat Cardin or Mfume as long as W is not a huge weight pulling him down.

When Mfume was in congress and on the talk show circuit he generally made sense and was an impressive speaker. I felt he was a decent role model for his race and might go on in politics. His move to the NAACP was a disappointment as it looked like a dead end for him, as well it turned out to be. His tenure there was nonsensical as he morphed from a leader on the national scene to the victimization role, apparently a job requirement, at the NAACP. I'd love to see the GOP co-opt him from the Democrat plantation.
