SAVE YOUR CONFEDERATE MONEY...
Montenegro says 'yes' to independence (Jovana Gec, Globe and Mail, May 22nd, 2006)
Montenegro's state electoral commission on Monday confirmed the victory of a pro-independence bloc in a referendum to secede from Serbia and form a separate state. The head of the commission, Fratisek Lipka, said that according to near-complete results, 55.4 per cent voted Sunday for Montenegro to become and independent state. The European Union has said a minimum 55 per cent threshold of “Yes” votes was needed for Montenegro to secede.
The result confirms the split of the Serbia-Montenegro union, and write the final chapter in the breakup of the former Yugoslavia.
Oh goody. Just what the world needs right now. More nationalism in the Balkans.
The EU said they needed 55% ... and if the vote was less, what was the EU prepared to do about it? Talk about delusions of grandeur.
It will be interesting to see if these Balkan-lite countries can develop economies to sustain independence. It would have been far better if they would have organized themselves as states within a united country ala the United States.
Now that they've divided themselves, they'll be ripe for conquest by the mullahs of terror.
No one under the protection of the World Gevernment is getting conquered by anybody.
Thus is sovereignity redefined.
Posted by: Lou Gots at May 22, 2006 12:10 PMHasn't sovereignty already been redefined by this bifurcation of a sovereign territory? The conquering I had in mind is the conquering of the minds and souls of the people by fundamentalist Moslems, not the conquering by another sovereign state, whatever that is.
