MEGA-SELF-REFERENCE ALERT--BROTHERS JUDD SOUNDTRACK:
I was looking for a tune the other day and found it on something random like the Power Puff Girls soundtrack or some such. At any rate, the thought occurred that we ought to have a Brothers Judd Soundtrack, made up of tunes associated with the blog or that we've discussed here in the past. Unfortunately, my memory is so spotty I can't recall all the ones we've all ruminated upon. Here are some I came up with -- and links to the music and or the post -- but please feel free to make suggestions.
-Symphony #3 (Henryk Gorecki)
-The Rising (Bruce Springsteen)
-Starting All Over Again (Iz Kamakawiwo'ole)
-Long Black Train (Josh Turner)
-The Man Comes Around (Johnny Cash)
-Bush was RightM (The Right Brothers)
-(I'm No) Superman (Laszlo Bane, Theme from Scrubs)
-Way Down in the Hole (Blind Boys of Alabama, Theme from The Wire)
-Thunderbirds Are Go (Busted, Theme from the movie, Thunderbirds)
-Super Bon Bon (Soul Coughing)
-Tear Down the Wall (Luther Wright & the Wrongs)
-Killing Me Softly (Roberta Flack)
-Post aeternitatem (After Forever (Rondellus)
Unloop.

I get such an easy feeling
when I'm staring at the ceiling
from the morning to the evening, yeah
that's the life for me, yeah
everybody's whining
because I spend the day reclining
they say I'm wasting all my time, yeah
well that's the way I like it
chorus:
everybody let up
cuz I don't wanna get up
everybody let up, woah-oah
cuz I'm not gonna get up, no-o
what's it matter what I do, yeah?
I don't take it out on you, yeah.
maybe you should try it too, yeah.
might be good for you, yeah.
chorus
that's the way I like it.

It was Signal in the Sky that appears on the Power Puff Girls Soundtrack.
Posted by: oj at May 5, 2006 10:20 AMMacArthur Park is the Brandenburg Concertos by comparison to The Song.
Posted by: oj at May 5, 2006 10:23 AMSomeday, I'm going to bribe your wife to play The Song into your ear while you sleep. She's a sleep doctor, I think it would be a very interesting experiment to run.
Posted by: Bryan at May 5, 2006 10:26 AMCan't have Iz without having Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World.
Posted by: David Cohen at May 5, 2006 12:22 PMI know you like Belle and Sebastian ... Fox in the Snow, or Stars of Track and Field or perhaps Act of the Apostle would be nice.
I think one d'Souza tune would be nice, and it's not fair (although ultra-cool) to have the Clash and not have a song by the American band that inspired them: the Ramones. I recommend either "Judy is a Punk" (highly appropriate for its condemnation of both the SLA and the Ice Capades) or "Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement" Alternately, since wee are at war, there's no cooler war song than "Commando."
Posted by: george at May 5, 2006 12:52 PMPS - I just remembered it was you that got me to buy Henryk Gorecki's Symphony 3 "Sorrowful Songs" ... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000005J1C/002-5887833-0383233?v=glance&n=5174
It's beautiful. And considering what it commemorates and your desire to recognize Poland and how we let her down ...
