GO TELL YOUR GRANDDAD HOW TOUGH TIMES ARE:

Diet trends aggravate U.S. meat glut (Associated Press, May. 15, 2006)

Benchmark wholesale prices for beef and pork are down more than 8 percent from a year ago and 20 percent for chicken, according to the Livestock Marketing Information Center.

"There is just an overabundance of protein on the market," the center's Jim Robb said.

We sure won't have trouble feeding that 100 million new Americans.

What a coincidence. I was thinking about posting a request for meatless meals, for that one meal a week where we don't feel like steak.

I just finished a t-bone steak. 1.34 lb @ $9.98 per lb. Total price $13.37. I rounded the 3 course meal off with wild asparagus that I picked and beer for a beverage. Those 100 million new Americans will be eating Solent Green burgers. Beef is expensive. Don't listen to anything that the AP says. From the freezer, Angus Beef Boneless New York Strip Steak, net wt. 0.91 lb., unit price $11.48/lb., Total Price $10.45. David, (from the freezer) Pork Spareribs Fresh, net wt. 2.10 lb., unit price $2.58/lb., Total Price $5.42. What a bargain. Buy some barbeque sauce, it's like ketchup, it's a vegetable.

If any of you are ever in Omaha, the place to go is Gorat's Steakhouse at 4927 Center Street. Oh man, is it good.

So there are no good meatless meals. Just as I always suspected.
