COCAO PEBBLES, BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
Study: Chocolate may boost brain power (Reuters, 5/25/06)
Chocolate lovers rejoice. A new study hints that eating milk chocolate may boost brain function.Silly scientists. Everyone knows the real benefits come from dark chocolate. Posted by David Cohen at May 25, 2006 2:21 PM"Chocolate contains many substances that act as stimulants, such as theobromine, phenethylamine, and caffeine," Dr. Bryan Raudenbush from Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia noted in comments to Reuters Health.
"These substances by themselves have previously been found to increase alertness and attention and what we have found is that by consuming chocolate you can get the stimulating effects, which then lead to increased mental performance."
And wash it down with the drink of champions:
Posted by: Rick T. at May 25, 2006 3:29 PMOn a related note, got a craving for a bowl of Cocoa Krispies last year. Much disappoint as the recipe had obviously been changed to add an additional shiny sugar coating to them. Way too sweet.
Posted by: Rick T. at May 25, 2006 3:39 PMWhat further flights of brilliance might I have had if I hadn't severely limited my chocolate intake following the advice of the nutrition mavens and other spoil sports.
I'll try to make up for it in the future, so watch this space for some dazzling examples of excellent thinking as I tuck into some of Russell Stover's milk chocolate almond and caramel clusters.
Is this a great life or what?
Posted by: erp at May 25, 2006 4:30 PMHa! I've discovered that when I use the copious amounts of chocolate available at Holiday times as replacement for breakfast-I actually lose weight! No kidding.

Posted by: David Cohen at May 25, 2006 5:29 PMCount Chocula is clearly the superior choice for the cereal connoisseur.

Posted by: Peter B at May 25, 2006 6:20 PMShelton: I really am a Coco Pebbles fan. Not only does the powdery chocolate coating make good chocolate milk, but the pebbles are exactly the right size to make a chocolate milk slurry. Mmmm, slurry.
Posted by: David Cohen at May 25, 2006 6:51 PMI thought lox with bagels and cream cheese was supposed to be the best brain food.
