Erp, I think they do so because they still prefer left wing causes and socialist governance. If not preference than perhaps it's a kneejerk reaction lingering from the past, as with African Americans. The good news is they're both coming around; perhaps slowly, but hopefully surely.

Both groups have read of and experienced cruel emotional/religious/ethnic/rightest reversals in their histories, recent and past, and trust may be a long time coming. The left may be perceived as shelter.

Here follows a hard teaching: a folk-enemy with a sympathetic grievance is still a folk-enemy. A Communist or Islamacist fifth-columnist whose grandparents were mistreated is still a Communist or Islamacist fifth-columnist.

Toe, Lou and I are talking about two different "folks." I'm talking about Jews and blacks who choose to be Democrats, not my enemies. I was a Democrat once and I've changed ... for my own reasons, and I could change again ... for my own reasons. You may choose to think of Democrats as the "folk enemy" but I don't see them that way. American hard leftists, socialists, Marxists, peace at any price pacifists, environazis, anticapitalists all disgust me, the extent to which depending on their motives, but I don't yet see them as the enemy.

Caliphacists, North Korean Communists, Iranazis, Chavezites are my enemies ... not Americans with differing viewpoints.

I am certainly not talking about Democrats, or even "liberal" Democrats. I am talking about minority individuals who reflexively choose oppositional-defiant positions to their country's interests because of resentment for real or imagined past slights.

Thus we see religious minorities motivated by anti-Christian bigotry and racial and/or national minorities motivated by ancient grievances.

The resentment is understandable, I want to say, but the enmity is nonetheless.

For this cause, the patriotism of racial minority members is particularly admirable. I read American History as the march of a white, Anglo nation. At various points in the past, this was very much at the expense and to the detriment of those whom we surpassed and overcame.

That was then. Now those racial and national minority individuals are our fellow-citizens and our neighbors. Accept that Blacks, Mexicans and Indians must change sides to join us.

I was pleased and proud to stand behind loyal Americans of every race and ethnicity in the Marine Corps, aware that many of them had a history to overcome.
