NOT YOUR DEMOCRATIC PARTY’S CANADA

PM's agenda resonating with voters, new poll finds (Gloria Galloway, Globe and Mail, April 15th, 2006)

Canadians are satisfied with the performance of their new federal Conservative government and a majority say that they see eye to eye — or at least regularly agree — with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Nearly two-thirds of the respondents to a poll conducted by the Strategic Counsel for The Globe and Mail and CTV said their priorities are similar or identical to those spelled out by the Conservatives — accountability, child care, reduced waiting times for health care, safe streets and a cut to the GST.

“You've got a good, solid majority saying his five priorities are ‘not identical but certainly similar to my own,' ” said Allan Gregg, the chairman of the Strategic Counsel. “This is where he had problems previously, in that there was a certain dissonance between what people believed he believed in and what they believed in. And that seems to have gone away.”

We do like to keep you all guessing, don’t we? But don’t feel bad, we’re just as puzzled by it all as you are.

If this keeps up I'll be looking at land up there; especially with global warming already happening.

Genecis, please contact me then. I have some arctic tundra to sell you that with continued global warming shouild very soon be prime farmland or a great place for residential building. It has been in my family for generations and due to an unfortunate need for short term financing I must sell this PRIME REAL ESTATE before it becomes worth MILLIONS.

I also am need of assistance in getting seven hundred million dollars out of the national bank of nigeria and will give you ten percent of the gross amount for your assistance.......

As an ex-Brit, Conservative, pro-American type, I've almost despaired of Trudeaupia and Jean Cretin and Paul Margin, it's such a relief to have a grown up in the PM's office.

If we don't stop Harper from pursuing a centre-right political agenda, the terorists will have won.

I have to think that at least some of this is backlash against the Grits' repeated invocations of Harper's "scary hidden agenda." At least some moderate Canadians who believed the Liberals are finding out that, hey, he's not that scary, and his agenda is center-right, reasonable, and exactly what he said it would be. Shocking.
We'll see whether the same people fall for it the next time the Grits try the same technique.

Pepys. Can I assume that's supposed to be humorous?
