NO SNOW IN THE FORECAST:
Treasury Secretary Is Said to Be Thinking of Quitting (ELISABETH BUMILLER, 4/05/06, NY Times)
Several prominent Republicans who consult regularly with the White House said on Tuesday that Joshua B. Bolten, the president's incoming chief of staff, was interested in a replacement for Mr. Snow who could more powerfully communicate the administration's message that the American economy is strong.Another Republican who is in close contact with the West Wing staff said White House officials were expecting Mr. Snow to step down.
"They're waiting for Snow to do the right thing," the Republican said. "They thought he would have gotten the message right now and submitted his resignation."
That was supposedly the job Andy Card was waiting to have open so he could move laterally rather than resign, but what they could really use is a media pro and proselytizer to get out there and draw attention to the great economy. Posted by Orrin Judd at April 5, 2006 3:23 PM
Bush has another chance to name James Glassman.
Posted by: erp at April 5, 2006 4:05 PMIf I could work from Chicago, I'll take the job. I'd be better than the above named people.
...though Glassman may come close.
Posted by: Bruno at April 5, 2006 4:15 PMAfter Kudlow's immigration article cited above, I vote for him. Of course, tho, he's got tons of skeletons in his closet, but damn, it would drive the nativists and the lefties crazy.
Posted by: Jim in Chicago at April 5, 2006 6:51 PMDidn't Glassman write that book which predicted the Dow would hit 36,000 in 2005?
Having him as an offical booster for the economy would be too easily lampooned.
