BEAMED OUT:

McClellan Out as White House Press Secretary (Fred Barbash and Jim VandeHei, April 19, 2006, Washington Post)

White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan announced his resignation this morning and President's Bush's longtime adviser Karl Rove is scaling back his responsibilities. [...]

Rove, who was named a deputy chief of staff for policy after Bush's second election, will leave that post to spend more time on politics as the mid-term elections approach. He is expected to be replaced by Joel Kaplan, who now serves as deputy White House budget director.

I hereby nominate Christopher Hitchens for WH press sec.

Scott has always been spacey, so the title fits.

Good news. The worst press secretary since Ziegler departs.

I just read the post below, Tony Snow would be an excellent, excellent choice.

Yeah but Bob, I want someone who'll make the hothouse flowers in the wh press corps cry. Preferably while he's holding a triple whiskey.

Hitch'll be great for that. Just keep him off the subject of Israel . . .

But would OJ be willing to violate the State Line rule?

How about the general that's in NOLA?

OT: Am reading IBD and they said John Shadegg has introduced a bill to treat the marketing of health coverage as interstate commerce and allow policy sales across state lines.

That'd be huge for HSAs.

I say put Scott's mom in his place. It would make Rick Perry happy, and Carole has shown no compunction against firing at her targets with both barrels, even at times when her aim is a wee bit off.

Plus, as a woman, she could get away with decking Helen Thomas.

If you folks want to check out the left blogs, McClellan resigning is this week's Next! Big! Thing! that's going to tear the Bush Administration asunder and magically put Saint Ralph in the White House. "Rats deserting the sinking ship" is one bon mot I read. Of course, this is a ship that's allegedly been sinking for 5 years, so that's one slow sinking ship. Slower than the Andrea Doria, even.

I understand they've already auditioned a replacement.

Hitch is a liberal who disagrees with Bush on everything but the war. Mark Steyn would be much better.
