Black business owners on rise (Elwin Green, April 18, 2006, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

Black Americans are becoming entrepreneurs at a rapidly increasing rate and Pittsburgh is following the trend, a new report issued by the Census Bureau suggests.

The report, "Survey of Business Owners: Black-Owned Firms: 2002," says that between 1997 and 2002, the number of black-owned businesses in the United States rose 45 percent to 1.2 million, while the combined revenue increased 25 percent to $88.8 billion.

"It's encouraging to see not just the number but the sales and receipts of black-owned businesses are growing at such a robust rate, confirming that these firms are among the fastest growing segments of our economy," said Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon.

They do when they are really, really big companies and let's not even talk abou the foundations they set up and let their spoilt-brat children play with...

This would suggest the Dems lose their 90% hold on the African American vote. Then again polls on vouchers, Social Security, taxes, etc have suggested the same in the past with no results to show for it.

In 1979, roughly 30% of the Black middle class was employed by some level of government. For Caucasians, the public sector share was roughly 19%. The latter percentage has dipped just a tad, but the former is steadily converging with it. A healthy trend.

Yeah, those business owners just hate cheap hard-working employees....

Why wouldn't any race of business owner see it in their interest to vote Republican; they want to get out of paying taxes just as much as the next guy?

Black business owners don't vote Democrat?

I deny the allegation and I deny the alligator!

um . . . exactly my point. Business owners will vote for the party that isn't trying to lock up their employees or themselves for employing them. Anti-immigration legislation, if done stupidly (as lately), alienates small business owners, the bread and butter of the party.

Yes, but we are the Stupid Party...
