A BUSH GROWS IN THE MEADOWLANDS?:

Draft surprise: It's Williams at No. 1 (Kristie Rieken, 4/28/06, The Associated Press

The Houston Texans' decision to snub Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush and sign defensive end Mario Williams with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft has cut a slack-jawed swath across the NFL. [...]

The Texans' move left the New Orleans Saints with an opportunity to take Bush as the No. 2 pick. Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said Friday night the team had no comment.

The Texans brass have lost their minds.

Charley Casserly's house has sold, so this will be his nice parting gift for the team as he moves on to the league office.

Being a football fan in Houston can be tough (another bowl game is about to fold up shop!). Thank goodness I'm a lifelong Cowboys fan. :)

I haven't been following the draft that closely but I do remember some sports pundits saying Texas should pass on Bush but only if they got a bunch of other picks since they have so many needs that 1 player won't do it all.

The Saints already have McAllister and another decent back so they may pass on Bush and he ends up with the Jets. But the Jets need a QB desperately.

The problem in Houston was even if they had chosen Bush, therer were so many people demanding the Texas take hometown favorite Vince Young, even though they already have David Carr for that position (albeit with the crappy Texans' line, Young has a better chance to run away than Carr does).

As for the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets, they'll just have to wait to see what the Titans do, assuming New Orleans doesn't pass on Bush (remember, we are talking about the Saints here). Young's probably a better fit for Tennessee, given the offense they've run with McNair, but I wouldn't be surprised if they went with Leinart and left the Jets the quandry of picking Young, who as of 11:30 a.m. EDT, they didn't seem to high on.

These top-of-the-first-round picks are over-rated. And given the salaries they get - Williams signed for $9 million a year - they're also an albatross under the salary cap.

New Orleans would be smart to trade down. The question is, does anyone want to trade up?

pj is right. They should have traded the first pick for 3 or 4 other picks and drafted an offensive line.

Uggghhh. Why do you people talk and write like this when you're discussing sports? Stop using the present tense in subjunctive constructions.

I hear the Raiders are going to draft a quick DE and try to bulk up the D-Line so they can better implement the subjunctive construction next year.

Sorry, OJ, the Texans might be off their rockers but there was no way we were going four spots down in the Draft without somebody taking Reggie Bush. But here's your consolation prize...
