XENOPHOBIC RANTING HAS CONSEQUENCES?:

No Iraq Trip for Legislator Who Opposed Deal on Ports (CARL HULSE, 3/04/06, NY Times)

Representative Peter T. King's prominent opposition to a proposal to allow a Dubai company to take over some terminal operations at American ports may have earned him some punishment from the Bush administration: He has been grounded.

Mr. King, the New York Republican who is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, confirmed Friday that a few days after he first threatened legislation to hold up the port deal, the Pentagon informed him that it could not provide an aircraft for his planned March Congressional delegation to Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East.

I wonder how much of the reporting is true, it is the NYT.

ic, I passed by this post earlier for the same reason.

It's not important that it be true, just that it be perceived to be true.

It's mean and petty of the administration to do this, and I support it 100%.

A wealthy man like King can easily afford his own air ticket to Iraq if he really wants to go. Once there, the Pentagon types have no choice but to kiss his behind and escort him around, just like every other congress critter.

Yeah, the polls and the party unity are looking really good for the administration.

I'm happy I was so off base on the issue.

OJ,

I don't think we disagree on those issues.

Posted by: Bruno at March 5, 2006 11:12 PM

That's the only issue here.

Posted by: oj at March 5, 2006 11:15 PM

Amazing. People somehow expect that they will receive favors from the administration after slandering it and attempting to derail its efforts.

Amazing.

OJ:

Howzabout we let the Dubai deal go through and pass a law barring pro-IRA congressmen from ever entering any U.S. port?

How about not letting Aerlingus land at any American airport, since Ireland is so closely tied to terrorism.

Posted by: oj at March 6, 2006 4:03 PM

Shouldn't let Irishmen pilot planes, period. We micks are a bunch of pathetic, aggressive drunks, as I'm sure Rep. King's predecessor could have told you 150 years ago.
