THE UNSERIOUS ALTERNATIVE:

Democrats Detail Security Policy: Bin Laden, Iraq and Domestic Safety Identified as Midterm Issues (Chris Cillizza and Dan Balz, March 30, 2006, Washington Post)

Emboldened by President Bush's declining approval ratings, Democrats unveiled a national security platform yesterday for the midterm elections that stresses renewed focus on capturing Osama bin Laden, reducing the U.S. presence in Iraq and stepped up protection at home.

Bin Laden is likely dead, but what focussing on arresting "him" and any al Qaeda remnants would require is re-deploying all those troops currently in Iraq to Eastern Afghanistan/Western Pakistan and depopulating the region as you check every person there, then establishing state structure powerful enough to establish the rule of law and police the population permanently. They aren't going to do that -- even if it made sense to do so, which it doesn't -- so such chatter isn't to be taken seriously.

When you haven't a clue, demagogue. Play on the unarticulated fear and anger of that permanent part of the electorate and hope the media tags along.

There is a significant group of people out there who either seriously believe, or want others to seriously believe, that if we kill Osama it will be the equivalent of Darth Vader polishing off Emporer Palpatine in Episode VI of "Star Wars", and that the evil terrorist threat will be ended for all intents and purposes and we can then have a big V-OBL Day in Time Square with photographers snapping shots of sailors kissing beautiful random girls (and presumably Ewoks dancing around big trees).

The Democrats in Congress have to know better than that -- well, at least most of them, anyway -- but to pander like this and try to assure people that once Osama is dead we can go back to the cocoon of not worrying about any foreign threats like in the Clinton years is both embarassing and annoyingly condesending.

Tom C - worked on the Ports deal so I'm sure it will be tried again.

Do you think the moveon.org and the moonbat base will buy it? Will Cindy S. and code pink endorse it? After all, it's a call for violent men to do violence on their behalf. And what of the costs of increased homeland security? Will their proposals include a tax increase?

Do they mean what GWB meant by reducing our presence in Iraq or will it be a pullout?

My advice to them would be to leave national defense alone or not emphasize it as much as they mught focus on domestic programs ... their supposed forte. Energy independence could be a big one for them such as the Kennedy family windmill program now known as: IYBY,NM.

You do know that already the hapless donkeys are backtracking on using the word "eliminate" as it applies to binny boy. Sounds too much like "kill" which they are against - unless you're living in a womb or your last name is Schiavo.

Yea, they'll capture binny alright. Ha! I want to see the video of the Democrats insisting that he be read his Miranda rights and the caterwauling about his need for a civil - get that? - civil trail with all of the rights Americans are guaranteed in place for him. Yea, these jackasses are serious. Heh.

Hasn't Howard Dean already endorsed Osama's civil rights?

I don't even get what this means. Let's say that we elect a Democratic congress in '06. What, exactly, are they going to do? Give George Bush vast new powers? Pull the army out of Iraq, as OJ suggests? Use the power of their minds? Pray? Suit up Nancy "Doom" Pelosi and show no mercy?

Where have they been for the past 5 years????

Where have they been for the past 5 years????

Best question yet. Problem is, we all know the answer.

OT: Anybody notice Howie the Howler seems to have a terminal case of laryngitis? His days are numbered. If November 2006 turns out like I suspect, Howie will be going back to doing abortions in Vermont.
