LOVE THE SMELL OF TEAR GAS IN THE EVENING?:

Strike protests in Paris and London (Philip Johnston, 29/03/2006, Daily Telegraph)

[W]hereas in Britain the day was marked by nothing more revolutionary than picket lines and rallies, in France it ended with clashes on the streets. In Paris, where 700,000 marched, police used tear gas against several hundred youths who threw bottles and petrol bombs.

The protest, which threatens to bring down the government of Dominique de Villepin, forced the Eiffel Tower to close and caused delays for commuters. A third of flights were cancelled, 70 per cent of public transport was disrupted and national newspapers failed to appear. [...]

[A]s night fell in Paris, the smell of tear gas was in the air.

Seems to me the only practical solution is to offer these kids secure jobs as gendarmes, including salary, bonuses, two-month holidays per annum (with days off on secular, Christian and especially Muslim holidays---and maybe they'll throw in Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur too, in solemn solidarity with the half-dozen or so remaining French Jews), and retirement at age 45, with full pension.

Even if they don't graduate.

The folks who talk smack about Aztlan or Reconquista when it comes to the Hispanic protests here have to at least admit that the protests were almost all peaceful.

Something Anglos and Francophiles over there might take note of.

Just breathing our free air has taught them something. I actually hope they all, well except the leftie agitators, will be able to stay.
