IT'S ALL ABOUT THE HELMETS:
NFL owners accept player union proposal with 30-2 vote (Jarrett Bell, 3/08/06, USA TODAY)
March Madness is not always about college basketball.NFL owners scored a buzzer-beater of their own Wednesday night, finally agreeing to a six-year extension of their collective bargaining agreement with the players union as time was set to expire on their negotiating window.
Interesting that the players were able to break the owners,m since the last work stoppage showed the NFL to be the pro sport where the players matter least. Put any 22 guys out there in NFL garb and the fans will watch. Posted by Orrin Judd at March 9, 2006 8:27 AM
True that.
Posted by: Rick T. at March 9, 2006 8:49 AMWhen the group of nine owners seeking to end the league's pure revenue system broke apart -- apparently John Mara had guilt pangs, since revenue sharing was his dad's creation -- the chance of the owners rejecting the new deal ended, even though it comes across as a win for the players. But Jerry Jones looked like he had eaten a carton of lemons at the press conference on Wednesday after the vote was taken.

Posted by: b at March 9, 2006 11:19 AMThat's why the players could be stubborn, they knew if there was a lockout they could start their own league and still get TV dollars.

No, that's why Baseball & Basketball players win. In football fans would tune in for the Cowboys, not for Drew Bledsoe of the Akron Tiremakers.
