THE PUBLIC FACE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY:
Activist Cindy Sheehan Arrested at Capitol (LAURIE KELLMAN, 1/31/06, Associated Press)
Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a fallen soldier in Iraq who reinvigorated the anti-war movement, was arrested and removed from the House gallery Tuesday night just before President Bush's State of the Union address, a police spokeswoman said.Sheehan, who had been invited to attend the speech by Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., was charged with demonstrating in the Capitol building, a misdemeanor, said Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider. Sheehan was taken in handcuffs to police headquarters a few blocks away and her case was processed as Bush spoke.
Schneider said Sheehan had worn a T-shirt with an anti-war slogan to the speech and covered it up until she took her seat. Police warned her that such displays were not allowed, but she did not respond, the spokeswoman said.
Police handcuffed Sheehan and removed her from the gallery before Bush arrived. Sheehan was to be released on her own recognizance, Schneider said.

Cindy Sheehan, who gained international fame when she camped outside President Bush’s ranch in an anti-war protest, plans to pitch her tent again, Venezuela’s president said Sunday as he urged activists worldwide to help bring down “the U.S. empire.”
Why should an enemy of the United States have been allowed back into the country, nevermind allowed proximity to its entire government (less Jim Nicholson)? Posted by Orrin Judd at February 1, 2006 12:42 PM
Ans: She's not worth taking seriously.
Posted by: Ali Choudhury at February 1, 2006 1:38 PMAnother answer: We want her in the public eye, and we want her exerting as much leftward push on the Democrat party as possible.
Any picture of Crazy Cindy is a good picture, except the one which shows her accepting a bag of money from Karl Rove.

Well this one may be censored by OJ but it gives the full flavor of Cindy. (bad language in photo)

Interesting picture of the junior Senator from NY. I thought this type of "candid" photo was reserved for the other side of the aisle or political spectrum. Hmmm...
Posted by: Rick T. at February 1, 2006 2:13 PMSomeone at Reuters must be hot and bothered about Hillary's support for Iraq and the WOT to have hit the 'send' button on that photo. Yikes!
Posted by: John at February 1, 2006 2:36 PMIt's too bad that she didn't wait until the middle of the speech to stage her "protest." Imagine what it would have looked like with Mother Sheehan screaming her immature, irrational, anti-Semitic, anti-American tirade from the balcony, and the Dems all cheering her on.
Posted by: Mike Morley at February 1, 2006 2:53 PMMike, you would have seen the Democratic Party - metaphorically speaking - land as gracefully as USS Shenadoah.

Posted by: Robert Schwartz at February 1, 2006 4:01 PMNearly everyone of these stories is fundamentally mistaken. Her son died in Afghanistan. Even on the extreme left there are degrees of wingbatyness that offer some distinction between the relative necessity of the two campaigns.
Her equivalence in objecting to both the Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns serves to detract even further from the underlying presumption of sanity.
Posted by: Ray Clutts at February 1, 2006 5:27 PMHow dare you compare the dems to a rigid airship? That's a vile insult to airships everywhere.

You are wrong. I believe her son did die in Iraq. And I for one would like to say that I don't know when she started to carry her rage over the line, but certainly initially we can all sympathize with her in loss.
Posted by: h-man at February 1, 2006 6:12 PMPretty couple. However, seriously, it is both chilling and contemptible how so many big names on the left are so willing to co-opt emotional illness that may be born of a mother's grief this way. That the rest of the family stands silent in the face of all this is a great credit to them. Not sure I could do it.
Posted by: Peter B at February 1, 2006 6:19 PMI thought the father, who is divorced from St.Cindy, had said he's not sympathetic to her cause.
And we need to thank the Congresscritter's wife who got tossed for the same reason as St.Cindy. It makes it impossible for anyone but the True Believers to buy the vortex that she was singled out by McBushitler's Clone Army of Stormtroopers. (Besides, that old Marxist-Leninist vaudeville tactic being so annoying as to cause a highly visible arrest just doesn't work any more.)

VACAVILLE, Calif. Hundreds of mourners came out Tuesday to remember Army Spc. Casey Austin Sheehan as an honor student who was quick to help out others.
The 24-year-old Sheehan died in Iraq last week, bringing the war closer to this town located between San Francisco and Sacramento.
His life has brought new meaning to our community, said Vacaville Mayor Len Augustine, who declared April 13, 2004 as Casey Austin Sheehan Memorial Day. He made the ultimate sacrifice.
Nearly 1,000 people filled St. Marys Church to bid farewell to Sheehan, who had been in Iraq only two weeks before he was killed in a battle with Shiite militia outside Baghdad.
Casey was such a special man the perfect son, said longtime family friend Estella Tucker.
Sheehan was a member of the 82nd Field Artillery of the 1st Cavalry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas.
Army Maj. Gen. Rodney Kobayashi was on hand to present Sheehans family with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and thank them for a fine soldier, a soldiers soldier.
The Army is still investigating the circumstances surrounding Sheehans death. The Pentagon believes Sheehan and seven soldiers were killed when their units were attacked by rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire south of Baghdad.
In addition to his parents, Patrick and Cindy, Sheehan is survived by his brother, Andy, and sisters, Carly and Jane.
Sheehan was killed Sunday in a fire-fight outside Baghdad. Sheehans family members said his sergeant told them he and another soldier, Cpl. Forest J. Jostes, volunteered to be part of a quick response team when rioting started in Baghdad.
He didnt have to go, said Sheehans 23-year-old sister, Carly. He would do anything for anybody. Hed give you the shirt off his back. He was just a loving and caring person.
Carly Sheehan said her brother was active in his Catholic church, spending 10 years as an altar server and serving in the youth ministry.
Thats all he wanted to do was serve God and his country his whole life, Carly Sheehan said. He was a boy scout from age 6 or 7 and an Eagle Scout. It was kind of a natural progression to go into the military from that. He said he was enjoying the military because it was just like the boy scouts but they got guns.
