SOMEWHERE BOMBER HARRIS CRINGES:

Special report: America's Long War: US introduces radical new strategy (Simon Tisdall, Ewen MacAskill and Richard Norton-Taylor, February 15, 2006, The Guardian)

>European governments are still digesting the contents of the US report and are expected to give full responses in the next few weeks. But initial reaction appears to be one of caution.

The Ministry of Defence said yesterday it had been consulted by the Pentagon as the review was drawn up and was pleased to see references to working with allies. As the consultation took place, Royal Marine commandos arrived at their base in southern Afghanistan yesterday at the start of a mission described in the Commons by government opponents as confused and unclear.

But British commanders expressed concern that increased attacks on suspect terrorists using drones - in which decisions are made rapidly by secret watchers based thousands of miles away - could have legal implications. They also highlighted potential infringements of sovereignty and the bypassing of political controls and of established rules of engagement.

Never mind the 21st century political correctness that would pass up a shot at the enemy just because of transnational legal fictions, if they haven't figured out yet that our recognizing the sovereignty of others depends on their meeting our liberal democratic standards then they have their other foot in the 19th century.

Gone are the days of El Alamein. With this mentality I wonder if they would have sunk the Bismark.

Europeans are cautious, the sun has a propensity to rise in the morning, and dogs chase cats.

As Arthur's butler said -

"I'll ah-lerrt the media..."

Why should the Brits care about sovereignty?

The elite are willing to give theirs up for the greater good.

Just thought about that again last night watching the Olympics, I forgot not only 1 seat in the UN, but 1 team in the Olympics.

Europe stirs
Emanuele Ottolenghi says that Europe is waking from its trance. According to polling data, most Europeans believe Iran's intentions are not peaceful, and most are ‘somewhat’ or ‘very’ worried’ about its nuclear programme. Although they still back the diplomatic game over Iran, more Europeans are ready to support limited NATO military strikes if it emerges that Iran is on the brink of developing a nuclear weapon than those who would oppose strikes no matter what:

The Europeans don't reall care if the Muslims are able to tell their grandchildren what to do in terms of societal rules, but now that it appears they're going to try and impose their rules on them, the adults on the continent are finally getting a little testy (which is different from actually wanting to defend the Christian faith in Europe, it's more akin to wanting to call the police because some kids won't turn their boom box down).

Which is Genecis way of saying that in the 19th Century the Brits didn't care about that eyewash.

Almost all you need to know to apply the concept of "sovereignty" to enforcement of World Government commands can be found by a search for "Sovereignty" AND "coastal artillery".

The word means one thing against a gunboat and another thing against a precision guided submarine-launched ballistic missile.
