GOSH, HE SEEMED SO WELL-ADJUSTED:

Episcopal bishop treated for alcoholism (AP, 2/14/06)

The Episcopal Church's first openly gay bishop, V. Gene Robinson, says he has started treatment for alcoholism.

In a letter to clergy, Robinson said he considers his alcoholism "as a failure of will or discipline on my part."

And he would know.

Blue-state hedonists.

As St. Paul says, 1 Timothy ch. 3:

"2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

"3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

"4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

"5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

"6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

"7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil."

They don't much mind that "husband of one wife," or "one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity" stuff any more, so why should they mind the "sober" and "not given to wine" parts?

Any day now, the other shoes start dropping . . . the domestic violence complaint, the ugly public breakup, the boyfriend's tell-all appearance on Geraldo . . . 'tis an ugly road we be travellin' down.

Are you kidding? How much more Episcopalian can you be than "Whiskypalian"?

Luke
6-37 "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;
6-38 give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back."

Why don't we pray for the man like good Christians should?

Yes, prayer is needed for Bishop Robinson. Nonetheless, the other observations are salient as well.

Here's one my sister (an Episcopal Minister) taught me:

"Wherever you find four Episcopalians, you'll find a fifth."

xyz:

Prayer is all well and good, after you stop him from destroying the church.

Bishop Robinson stared at the half-empty bottle of Jack Daniels. "I wish I knew how to quit you," he said.

(I know, that wasn't nice.)

I wonder if he votes Democrat too?

Time for another prayer.

So this bishop walks into a bar and asks the bartender...

1Corinthians 5: 11. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
12. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
13. But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

He should have been defrocked and restored to fellowship only after he confessed and repented of his sinful behavior.

The rates of alcoholism, drug addiction and domestic violence is disproportionately high in the homosexual community.

Growing up Catholic, gay clergy are somehow less strange than female clergy. They always look....wrong somehow. Like those restaurants where the waitresses where slacks and ties.

And, no I didn't know any gay priests growing up (that I knew of!).

My dad did. The boys all knew to stay out of the confessional if he was around.

Perhaps he should go to the local imam for counseling.
